Top Gun Maverick star joins Doctor Strange director’s new movie
Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller is set to star in the latest film from strange doctor and The black phone director Scott Derrickson.
The envelope reports that Teller signed to star and executive produce Jhe throatswhich is described as an “action-packed, genre-defining love story”.
Derrickson will direct from a spec script written by tomorrow’s war writer Zach Dean, while the film will be produced by Skydance Media, which also produced Top Gun: Maverick.
Top Gun: Maverick came out earlier this year, 35 years after the original Superior gun film. Tom Cruise returned to play Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, while Teller took on the role of Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw – the son of Maverick’s former flight partner and friend Goose.
Cruise is of course famous for doing his own stunts in his movies and Teller followed suit for maverick, something he’s hinted he won’t be doing again anytime soon.
Talk to LADbible in June, Teller said he thought he was “going to die” filming an extreme stunt in an F-18 Hornet jet.
Teller recounted his experience of a max G pull-up on the plane, saying, “You head down and at the last second you pull it up.
“I think when there’s so much adrenaline and a little bit of fear, I’ve been able to hold on [vomit] down. I guess it’s a secret skill I have.”
Teller said he was unsure if he would take on stunt roles immediately, saying, “I’m open to that, but also, I got hurt on some movies.”
He also said he didn’t want to take away the work of the stuntmen and valued their skills and experience on set.
Top Gun: Maverick is available to watch on platforms including cinema of the sky, NOW and blank tv.
