Robert Downey Jr chose a rather unexpected movie as his best and believe it or not it’s not Iron Man Related.

Although he became, arguably, the main character who directed The Avengers to become the biggest movie franchise in history, it went for a low-key version that wasn’t better received at the time.

The 56-year-old performed in the 2005s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and this is the movie he chose when asked about the famous podcast, The Joe Rogan experience, what was his best movie.

“‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang‘, which is, in some ways, the best movie I have ever made,’ Downey Jr. told Rogan.

Downey Jr.’s well-known drug issues earlier in his career made directors less reluctant to pick him up for a big role. However, that role was a game-changer, which changed everyone’s mind.

He added: “It ended up being a calling card.

“It came out, and it bombed, but Jon Favreau saw it, and he said, ‘This guy could do an action movie.

“And so it ended up being my calling card in the Marvel Universe.”

Jon Favreau directed Iron Man in 2008 and gave Downey Jr. his next big launch in stardom.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was a black comedy crime film and starred Robert Downey Jr., Val Kilmer, Michelle Monaghan, and Corbin Bernsen.

The synopsis reads: “Two-bit con artist Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey Jr.) stumbles upon an audition for a mystery film while on the run from the cops.

“Winning the role, he lands in Hollywood, where he is embroiled in a murderous plot entangled with his childhood sweetheart, Harmony Lane (Michelle Monaghan) and tough private investigator Perry van Shrike (Val Kilmer).

“This emotionless and affectionate parody of film noir tropes is named after the influential collection of film reviews and essays by film critic Pauline Kael in 1968.”

Although Downey Jr. said “bombed” it, the film has always been a hit with critics and by IMDb ratings a 7.5 / 10 is very solid.

A review from Rotten Tomato read: “Funny, violent, intelligent and perfectly presented to anyone who wants their own Christmas mystery bag of sunblown dirt bag, this could be yours. A wonderful life. “

Someone else wrote: “Despite all the blood and gore, Kiss / Bang ends up being a remarkably good-natured and surprisingly moralizing little film.”
