Sonic 3 movie confirmed by Sega, Knuckles is also getting a spin-off series
The world of video-movie games is, to put it mildly, rather a mixed bag. The recently released Uncharted movie was torn apart by critics, with fans starting to recommend their own casting decisions. Despite critical panning, it’s hard to deny that they’re big moneymakers. The recent Mortal Kombat movie got a “meh” response, and yet the sequel is already in the works.
The Sonic The Hedgehog movie fared better than most. Although it only got a 6.5 rating on IMDB, it grossed over $300 million at the box office, three and a half times its investment. The second film was immediately put into action, and now SEGA has announced its partnership with Paramount+ saying that the third is already in the works.
If you haven’t seen the second Sonic movie yet, you can check out the trailer in the video below.
Sega CEO Haruki Satomi tweeted from Sonic The Hedgehog’s Twitter account, “We are thrilled to announce that Sonic’s third theatrical film and first live-action Sonic series for Paramount+ are actively in development.” That’s right, although the second movie hasn’t even hit theaters yet, SEGA and Paramount are confident enough to start making the third movie, months before the last one is released.
The live-action TV show was a little more unexpected, with no details released so far. However, in a financial meeting reported by Deadline, revealed that it will be based on Knuckles, with Idris Elba reprising the role of the red echidna. Despite Elba’s best efforts not to make a monotreme cartoon look sexy, fans still craved the egg-laying mammal, so it’s no surprise he got his own show.
Looks like it’s going to be a Sonic filled 2022, just hope it’s better than 2006.
