Brendan Fraser has been cast as a supervillain in new Batgirl movie
Brendan Fraser has been drafted to star in the upcoming Bat girl movie.
Deadline reports that the legendary star is set to play supervillain Firefly for the Warner Bros. movie. and DC Comics.
Firefly has been described as a “sociopathic arsonist with an obsessive drive to start fires” and is also one of Batman’s “most recurring enemies”.
He starts off as Garfield Lynns in DC Comics, who was an expert in cinematic special effects. He hatches a plan to rob a theater, but this devious plot is foiled by Batman and Robin.
The character was then redesigned to have a darker story that included elements of an abusive childhood and a life that succumbed to Gotham’s poverty.
In a particularly serious incident at a chemical plant, he suffered burns to 90 percent of his body. So, he recreated a flame retardant supervillain costume that comes with epic weapons.
Attached to his costume are a military-grade flamethrower, smoke bombs and grenades, a sword-shaped superheated plasma blade, and a high-tech winged jet pack to help him fly.
To think Brendan Fraser will embody all of this and more is too good.
He will star in the film, which is slated for release next year, alongside Leslie Grace, who has been cast to play the main character of Batgirl.
Batgirl is actually Barbara Gordon in the DC Comics universe, who is the daughter of Gotham Police Commissioner Jim Gordon.
JK Simmons was cast as Commissioner Gordon again after his first appearance as Zack Snyder Justice League.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad boys for life) were brought in to direct the film and Birds of prey screenwriter Christina Hodson is developing the screenplay.
The movie premieres on HBO Max next year and there’s no doubt everyone will be looking forward to seeing Fraser and Grace in their awesome costumes.
The Bat girl The film has been in development since at least 2017, when Joss Whedon was brought in to write, direct and produce the film.
He eventually resigned the following year, but work continued to hire their lead actor and develop how his character would enter the DC Cinematic Universe.
